Popis: | Using the FLAMES multi‐object spectrometric facility of the 8.2 m VLT/UT2, we have obtained high‐resolution spectra of 100 young, low and intermediate mass pre‐main‐sequence stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster. The X‐ray properties of all our targets are comprehensively characterised in the Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project (COUP).We have used synthetic model spectra to determine effective surface temperatures (Teff), radial velocities (vrad), projected rotational velocities (v sin i) and measures of the Hα emission (EW). The high‐resolution spectra also show that several targets previously treated as single stars in the literature are double‐lined spectroscopic binaries. We study the relationship between rotation and X‐ray luminosity for our targets and find a suggestion of inhibited X‐ray emission in the most rapid rotators. We will show the dependence of X‐ray luminosity as a function of stellar rotation and mass, and outline the implications of these results for dynamo activity in pre‐main sequence stars. |
