| Popis: | /ResumesBeginning in the 1960s, Quebec began to engage in activities that were intended to promote its international interests. It also has been observed that, during certain periods of time, this activity also served to advance its claim to sovereign status. Similar policies later would be adopted by other Canadian provinces, reflective of a broader trend in international relations toward paradi- plomacy (through which political subunits promote their economic, political and cultural interests) and protodiplomacy (through which subunits seek to assert claims to sovereign status) that has become increasingly popular. The Canadian experience in these areas is instructive for understanding the global significance of this ongoing development as well as more specific implications for Canada and its federal system.
