Popis: Carcinomas arising in the thyroglossal duct are comparatively rare. We experienced a case of ectopic thyroid carcinoma arising in the remnant thyroglossal duct which was histologically determined after resection of a mass diagnosed with cyst of the thyroglossal duct. A 37-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of a gradually enlarging mass at the anterior region of the neck which was first felt about 6 months before. Ultrasonography and CT revealed a mass 3cm in diameter in contact with the hyoid bone. The border between the mass and normal thyroid was clear and no enlarged lymph nodes were observed. Any delinite diagnosis was not obtained based on aspiration biopsy. Under a diagnosis of cyst of the thyroglossal duct, the mass was removed. The section of the mass had cysts and there was a papillary elevated lesion in the inside of the smooth cystic wall. Pathologically, tissue of papillary carcinoma was observed in a part of the cystic wal and there was also the normal thyroid tissue in contact with its site. In the treatment of thyroglossal duct cyst, sufficient search and examination as well as treatment are considered to be necessary by entertaining a possible occurrence of ectopic carcininoma of the thyroid.
