In this work, we consider the design and simulation of three different WiFi antennas, namely: PCB-Yagi, disc-Yagi, and biquad, and present the results of their simulations and their performance as possible elements for energy harvesting systems in the 2.45 GHz band. We use CST Studio Suite® to analyze these antennas and to determine their main parameters and characteristics. The return losses for the considered antennas were the following: −21.485 dB for the biquad antenna at 2.4542 GHz; −44.555 dB for the disc-Yagi antenna at 2.4068 GHz; and −20.955 dB for the PCB-Yagi antenna at 2.3596 GHz. These low values of return losses indicate a good coupling of the antennas to a 50 \(\Omega \) transmission line without using matching networks at frequencies near to the 2.45 GHz ISM band. This work provides some guidelines for designing antennas to be used in energy harvesting systems that may serve as possible alternative energy sources for low consumption devices in environments permeated with 2.45 GHz electromagnetic radiation. |
