Popis: Guilt is one of most studied emotions because of its moral implications and its role in helping and reparative behaviours. However, there is a great debate regarding the features that define this particular self-conscious emotion, what differentiate it from other emotions, as well as the processes and contexts which favour a functional and adaptive experience, rather than a dysfunctional and painful one. Many hypotheses have been suggested during time, and then tested through different methodologies and research tools. The present paper aims to discuss some of the implications in the use of a particular methodology rather than another, showing some of the properties of the main research tools in the study of guilt. The aim is to shed light on the theoretical assumptions on which these tools are based, underlining as various emerging concepts of guilt raise from the specific theoretical and methodological kind of "spectacles" used to observe it.
