Popis: This chapter identifies what is required for employment relations to deliver inclusive and sustainable growth. Employment relations institutions are undergoing considerable changes throughout the world. Men typically account for a larger proportion of trade union membership than women. Women are more likely to be employed in sectors of the economy or in employment arrangements that have much lower levels of collective representation. Employers’ organizations seek to advance the interests of employers in respect of labour and employment issues, alongside trade associations which represent the interests of business in markets. Considering each stylized scenario in turn, it is possible to speculate as to the potential economic effects of employment relations. Employment relations can strengthen social cohesion with benefits for inclusive business performance and the economy more widely, by extending protections to workers in non-standard employment forms, promoting transitions from less protected to more protected jobs and reducing the use of precarious forms of work.
