Popis: This chapter continues the exploration of inmate responses to incarceration by testing two hypotheses, one deriving from theories of Emile Durkheim and one from Edwin Sutherland. Somewhat greater evidence is found for Sutherland’s theory of differential association than for Durkheim’s theory. Anti-staff attitudes tend to be greater the more contact that prisoners have with other prisoners.
