Objective: To examine the situation of nurses’ knowledge, practice, confident on wound care competency at eight hospitals in 2020. Subject and method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 518 nurses from June 2020 to October 2020. The study indicators consisted of mean knowledge scores, mean practice scores, and the rates of nurses by level of confidence. Result: The highest knowledge score belonged to the category of communication with patients 7.88 ± 2.06. The mean practice score related to adherence to aseptic processing guidelines was found the highest 8.79 ± 1.20, while the lowest score was found in the practice of monitoring patients’ responses, such as pain or bleeding, after having their wounds tended by nurses 7.58 ± 1.94. Nurses who were very confident in their dressing change skills accounted for the highest rate (110 nurses; 21.2%). Conclusion: The mean knowledge and practice scores among nurses were relatively high in all categories. The rate of nurses who felt confident and very confident exceeded 50%. |
