Popis: | The primary pyrolysis reaction of sulfides, sulfoxides, and sulfones (1-3), in the gas phase at 500-900 /sup 0/C, is homolytic cleavage of the C-SO/sub n/ bond. The order of reactivity, sulfoxide >> sulfone > sulfide, is consistent with the relative stabilities of the radicals produced. At 900/sup 0/C a novel and synthetically useful rearrangement of dibenzothiophene 5-oxide to 1-hydroxydibenzothiophene was observed. 21 references, 1 table. |
