Popis: | Site data gathered by intensive survey in the Cohonina culture area near Williams, Arizona, indicate that this prehistoric group has been inaccurately characterized in the archaeological literature to date. The survey data are used as a basis for suggesting that the Cohonina were much more closely involved in general Southwestern developmental trends than has been previously postulated. Relationships between site locations and environmental variability are explored on a very preliminary basis as groundwork for future studies of Cohonina subsistence-settlement systems. Finally, it is argued that the poorly investigated Cohonina area holds a rich potential for research questions of current, general archaeological interest. |
