Popis: Vanadium(IV) forms a deep green complex with disodium maleonitrile dithiolate, in 0.05N sulphuric acid in 50 % acetonitrile solution, having maximum absorption at 580 nm. The colour system obeys Beer's law from 0.6 to 10 p. p. m. with optimum concentration range 2.5 to 10 p. p. m. of vanadium. The % relative error is 2.65. The determination of composition by continued variation and molar ratio methods suggests a metal to reagent ratio of 1∶4, the calculated dissociation constant being of the order of 10−18. The molar extinction coefficient is 4890 while the sensitivity is 0.01μg/cm2.
