Asian/Pacific Islanders (APIs) represent more than sixty distinct ethnicities including Chinese, Cambodian, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Hmong, Indonesian, Laotian, Mien, Micronesian, Samoan, South Asian, Thai, Tongan, Vietnamese, among many others. Each group is distinguished by different immigration and migration patterns and circumstances, geographical location, socioeconomic status as indexed by wealth, education, and occupation, linguistic traditions, and English language competencies.
