Popis: In September 2011, the MArine Cable Hosted Observatory (MACHO) was launched in the northeastern sea off Taiwan for surveillance of submarine earthquakes, tsunami, and the ocean environment. The MACHO system, administrated by the Central Weather Bureau, is the first submarine observatory for various science research projects in Taiwan. Based on the MACHO system, we plan to have the marine observatory in the northeast Taiwan (MONET) focused on physical oceanography and ocean acoustics. This paper presents some preliminary results from the data collection of the CTD and acoustic data in the MACHO system. The CTD data show the daily fluctuations due to interactions between the tide and bathymetry. Event detection presents three underwater noise mechanisms, which are earthquake, shipping, and marine mammal. Moreover, we offer an e-research platform for future data exhibition and communication between scientists.
