Popis: The radicalism and the internationalism of the Land War had a mixed legacy among the revolutionary generation of the early twentieth century, reflected in some of the early histories of the period. In 1908, Francis Sheehy Skeffington published a study of Michael Davitt, who had died in 1906, which included a long section on the Land War. Too young to directly remember the agitation himself, Sheehy Skeffington portrayed the Land War as a turning point in which the Land League left behind the “Nationalists of the old school” and embraced “sentiments of international brotherhood.” He likened the agitation to a “war of classes” that “sprang from a deeper and more vital principle of human nature than the war of nations.”...
