The purpose of the study is to understand how children start to think about race and friendship. Specifically, this study is interested in whether young children use race to infer who will affiliate with whom and to guide who they want to be friends with. We will examine whether children think people from the same racial background will be more likely to affiliate and whether children themselves prefer to be friends with same race others. We will also test whether these two tendencies are related. This study will also investigate whether White children and racially minoritized children show differential response patterns. This study will also examine whether children’s social networks and neighborhood demographics relate to children's racial affiliation predictions and preferences. |
