Popis: | Strathclyde Regional Council is responsible for transportation and strategic land use planning in an area housing almost half of Scotland's population. It is also the only passenger transport authority north of the border. In 1991, the council undertook a wide ranging review of its transportation strategy taking account of increasing public concern over the environmental impact of traffic and the challenges and opportunities presented by its position in Europe. The result was the publication in February 1992 of the consultation document 'Travelling in Strathclyde'. This paper deals with the development of the draft strategy presented in 'Travelling in Strathclyde' and the responses received during public consultation. It should be read in conjunction with a companion paper 'The public transport contribution to Strathclyde Regional Council's transportation strategy'. (A) |
