Popis: 1. The monitoring equipment installed in the structure made it possible to promptly check the safe operation of the dam and to obtain data on the degree of correspondence of the stress-strain state to the design assumptions. During the period from 1971 through 1979, 93% of the embedded transducers operated satisfactorily. 2. An analysis of the data of long-term observations shows the following: The temperature regime of the concrete of the dam is not the same over the height and length of the dam as a consequence of its design features (flows on the dam crest in the form of a spillway, massive reinforced-concrete flume for discharging water in the lower pool, etc.) and its orientation with respect to points of the compass; The majority of intersectional joints after grouting the dam were not deformed or their deformations did not exceed 0.2 mm; after regrouting the intersectional joints of the right-bank part of the dam (the joints between sections 12, 14, 16, and 18) the amount and character of their opening did not change; The horizontal displacements of the dam have a seasonal character, which indicates the predominant effect of thermal deformations of the dam compared to its own weight and hydrostatic pressure; displacements of the dam in the summer toward the upper pool lead to opening of the joint along the concrete rock contact on the side of the downstream face; Technological stresses occurring in the construction period make up a large share of the total stresses in the dam; A comparison of the magnitude of the acting stresses with the maximum allowable with respect to the standards with the consideration of the actual strength and deformation characteristics of the concrete shows that the dam with respect to stresses and strains corresponds to the design assumption. 3. The probable value of the modulus of elasticity of the concrete of the dam on the whole as a structure can amount to (0.4–0.6)Esp, where Esp is the maximum modulus of elasticity obtained by testing concrete specimens.
