Popis: Conflict archaeology has yet to be widely accepted in the Republic of Ireland. Despite the impressive results produced by conflict archaeologists in other countries, debate continues to rage concerning the value of such work. The possible value and constraints of studying battlefields were explored in three articles in the popular quarterly 'Archaeology Ireland' in 1998-99. The unprecedented level of development currently underway in the Republic of Ireland poses a significant threat to the country's conflict archaeology. Despite the warnings of experienced campaigners in Ireland, Sir Arthur Grey de Wilton determined to march his forces straight to O'Byrne's stronghold in Glenmalure to root out the rebels. It is clear that there is a range of different sites to be explored, be they siege sites such as at Dun An Oir and Ballymore or open field battles such as Glenmalure and Dungan's Hill. Keywords: Ballymore; conflict archaeology; Dun An Oir; Dungan hill; Glenmalure hill; O'Byrne; Republic of Ireland; Sir Arthur Grey de Wilton
