Study of the emulsifier-free polymerization of alkyl(meth)acrylates in the presence of a surface-active initiator, and of the properties of the formed latexes

Popis: A comparative study was carried out of the features of emulsifier-free polymerization of alkyl(meth)-acrylates, initiated with equimolecular and “equiradical” amounts of potassium persulphate and of a polyoxyethylated azoinitiator with sulphate groups, as well as of the properties of the formed latexes and polymers. The kinetics of polymerization, the molecular mass (MM) and molecular mass distribution (MMD) of the formed polymers, and the physico-chemical and film-forming properties of the latexes were studied. Differences in the mechanism of the formation of the latexes and in their properties are assumed to exist.
