Popis: Women have made great strides in recent years in climbing the proverbial corporate ladder, yet obstacles still stand in the way of gender equity. Against this backdrop, in this chapter we explore interactions between men and women in the workplace, the ways in which men’s and women’s interpersonal communication styles and behaviors are valued, and how these affect outcomes on the job. In addition to economists’ contributions, substantial work in this area has been undertaken by scholars in management, business administration, gender studies, organizational psychology, and communication and media studies. Much of this work illuminates important aspects of women’s experiences in the workplace that we highlight in this chapter. We also focus on how women’s professional interactions and behaviors and the presence of female role models and leaders contribute to women’s success.
