Ni+2 doped Magnesium ferrite nano-particles having the basic composition NixMg1-xFe2O4(x=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) were synthesized using nitrate-citrate method, which is also known as auto-combustion method. Structural, dielectric and magnetic properties of these samples, sintered at 900 °C were investigated. The structure and phase of the synthesized samples were probed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. Peaks observed in the XRD spectrum confirms the formation of single phase spinel cubic structure for the synthesized pure and Ni+2 doped MgFe2O4 samples. Surface morphology of the samples has been investigated using FESEM. The dielectric constant (e’) and dielectric loss tangent (tan δ) of nano-crystalline Magnesium ferrites were investigated as a function of frequency and Ni+2 concentration at room temperature, over the frequency range 100 Hz to 1 MHz, using Hioki make LCR Hi-Tester 3250. Frequency dependence of e’ and tan δ is in accordance with the Maxwell-Wagner type interfacial polarization. The electrical conductivity (σac) is deduced from the measured dielectric data, and found that the conduction mechanism in NixMg1-xFe2O4 nanoferrites are in conformity with the electron hopping model. For the proposed mixed ferrites, magnetic properties were investigated using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). |
