A2-day-oldgirl(weight,3.7kg)developedabdominaldistentionandvomitingafterfeed-ing.HerApgarscoresat1and5minuteswere7and9,respectively.Theinfant’spostnatalcoursewasremarkableforafebrileepisodethatwaspre-sumedtobeduetochorioamnionitisinthemotherandfor which antibiotic treatment was initiated. Findingsfrom the prenatal ultrasound, most recently con-ductedat33weeks’gestation,werenormal.Theinfantwasactiveandwellperfused,withasoftbutdistendedabdomenandright-sidedlabialswelling.Findingsfromtheremainderofherexaminationwereunremarkable.An abdominal radiograph revealed dilated small-bowel loops (Figure 1A). Radiogra-phyoftheuppergastrointestinaltractwithwater-solublecontrastshowedanormalpat-ternofrotation.Resultsofasuctionrectalbiopsyrevealedganglioncellstobepresent.Se-rialabdominalradiographicimagesshowedretainedcontrastintheterminalileum6daysfollowingthegastrointestinalseries(Figure1B). |
