Popis: In this talk I will review PHOBOS data on charged particle multiplicities, obtained in Au + Au and d + Au collisions at RHIC. The general features of the Au + Au pseudorapidity distributions results will be discussed and compared to those of [Formula: see text] collisions. The total charged particle multiplicity, scaled by the number of participant pairs, is observed to be about 40% higher in Au + Au collisions than in [Formula: see text] and d + Au systems, but, surprisingly at the same level of e+e- collisions. Limiting fragmentation scaling is seen to be obeyed in Au + Au collisions.
