The problem of increasing the service characteristics and reliability of a wide variety of equipment is closely connected with continuous improvements in steel plate quality. Until very recently, the only solution to this problem was in the use of electroslag remelted (ESR) low-alloy and alloy steel plate, which provides the highest strength available in combination with high toughness and ductility [6]. However, ESR steel is relatively expensive, which limits its application. Thus, research is being carried out in the Soviet Union and abroad to develop alternative methods that would be competitive with remelting technologies. All these technologies are based on inducing solidification of the molten steel. |
