In superconducting Nb/Ag double layers, a diamagnetic transition occurs in the magnetization at a temperature T b below the transition temperature of Nb due to the proximity-induced superconductivity (PIS) in Ag. For triple layers, where Ag is squeezed between Nb and Fe, we find that for thick Ag layers with d Ag ⩾ 550 nm the diamagnetic screening in Ag is suppressed by the proximity of Fe, as expected. Surprisingly, for small d Ag the diamagnetic signal in Ag reappears due to the competing influence of PIS by the superconductor and pair breaking by the ferromagnet. |
