Popis: | The Current Population Survey (CPS) is the primary source for U.S. labor force data. In addition to its monthly coverage of demographic and employment information, the CPS contains occasional supplemental data on various topics including participation in and engagement with the arts. IPUMS CPS offers the Public Participation in the Arts and the Annual Arts Benchmarking surveys together under the name “Public Arts.” In this paper, we describe the challenges in weighting the CPS Public Participation in the Arts samples due to a complex survey design that varies across years, discuss our strategy for taking differences in weighting schemes into account when harmonizing Public Participation in the Arts and Annual Arts Benchmarking data, and provide guidance for researchers to tailor IPUMS CPS Public Arts supplement weights to their specific needs when necessary.
