Popis: | The limitations of the application of neural transplantation as a therapeutic measure in degenerative diseases of the human nervous system, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease are discussed. It is concluded that the potential usefulness of such a technique in these conditions is limited and that the key to their treatment is one of prevention. This can only come through a better understanding of those factors and mechanisms that lead to the loss of nerve cells (and hence their need for replacement) in the first instance. |
