Clean energy generation is the aim of the actual energy strategies for a climate neutral society and economy by 2050 in EU. The renewable energy distributed generation} (DERs) has reshaped the face of modern power systems, forcing them to adopt smart grid specific functions. The actual major challenge is to improve the market access of small commercial and residential customers and to exploit their flexibility capabilities by implementing Demand Side Management (DSM) actions. Also, the increasing number of prosumers, connected to the grid, will help to increase grid capacity for green energy generation if the new challenge to implement proper actions for energy generation side management of prosumers will be addressed. Smart metering and sub-metering IoT devices provide smart homes/hubs with the operational data and control abilities needed to perform such actions, while new and disruptive technologies, like blockchain, enable peer-to-peer transactions and contribute to the required tamper-proof character of energy transaction data. One major challenge of small commercial and residential prosumers is not only to exploit their flexibility capabilities by implementing Demand Side Management (DSM) actions and VPP specific functions but also to improve their market access. A feasible scenario involves the creation of aggregators, mainly for the management of smart homes demand response (DR) actions, and smart energy hubs for flexibility management actions of prosumers. The paper describes the Smart Hub Electric Energy Data Aggregation Platform (SHEEDAP.2) presenting its structure, functions, and performances. Some possible applications in Romanian economy are also indicated. |
