Popis:	A short synthesis of the 5–8 fused carbocyclic system of asteriscanolide, a novel cyclooctane sesquiterpene is described which entails a 5-(3,4) ene cyclization, an allylsilane induced lactone formation and a [3,3] sigmatropic rearrangement in the key steps of the synthesis.
