Popis: | In commercial applications of soliton communications systems with sliding-frequency guiding filters, a method for line-monitoring (LM) and fault location is required. We propose a novel LM system which is compatible with such systems. The LM channel employs a low bit-rate wavelength-division multiplexed channel of soliton pulses encoded with a pseudorandom bit pattern. The LM channel is sent along one direction in the fiber, and a small fraction is looped back onto the opposite fiber. The fiber dispersions can be arranged so that the LM channel experiences "gain" on the return. Numerical simulations confirm the feasibility of this scheme. |
