Popis: | In a paper ‘Alpha Cholesterol Percentages in Coronary Patients with and without Increased Total Serum Cholesterol Levels and in Healthy Controls’, published in 1962, we stated that in coronary patients a lower percentage of serum total cholesterol (CH) is bound to alpha lipoproteins than in healthy controls with the same level of serum CH. This was particularly obvious in patients without increased serum CH. We suggested that the first step in the development of atherogenic lipid pattern is a re-distribution of the CH among the alpha and beta lipoproteins, and only the following step is an increase of CH, mainly in the beta lipoproteins. |
