Popis: | Reed canary grass and willow are suitable raw materials for CHP-plants and biorefineries. Industrial scale production of these crops already exists in Scandinavia, but production could be expanded. We designed a simple economical model to explore production costs of the crops, which can also be used for sensitive analysis. The production costs of willow were approximately 25% lower than those of reed canary grass. The assumed yield levels greatly influenced production costs. The effects of fertiliser price and biomass transport distance on total costs were also tested. The major obstacles to increasing reed canary grass and willow cultivation seem to be high production costs compared with income, uncertainty in price development of inputs and competing crops and low interest among plant operators in new raw materials.
