Recently, MRI has advanced significantly to meet the needs of various disciplines of dentistry including orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery. Modern MRI systems that are capable of producing high definition images with specific needs for cephalometric analysis may evolve as a promising modality in near future. The studies have shown promising results regarding the effectiveness of MRI based cephalometrics. For achieving a real world application it is important to review the methods and their effectiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the knowledge gap related to current status of MRI based cephalometric analysis and summarize the techniques reported in the literature. |
