The archaeological trial trench evaluation was undertaken over four days between 12th May and 11th August 2021. The evaluation comprised the excavation of five of the nineteen trenches, Trenches 15 to 19 (Phase 1). Two ditches were revealed in two trenches, with one containing a single sherd of 11th-13th century pottery suggesting a medieval date for the origin of one of the field boundaries. Wardell Armstrong LLP (WA) was commissioned by Bloor Homes North West, to undertake an archaeological trial trench evaluation at the site known as Halsnead Garden Village at Windy Arbor Road, Whiston, Merseyside centred at National Grid Reference (NGR): SJ 46679 89921. The evaluation was required as a condition of planning consent and was undertaken in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI) produced in response to advice given by Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service (MEAS).
