Popis: | The medical records of 135 women who were sterilized in an Army hospital were evaluated. The average age of the women sterilized by tubal ligation was 28 years and the majority of these women had 2 or 3 children. Patients sterilized by hysterectomy had an average of 2.8 children and a mean age of 33 years. Tubal ligation was the most commonly employed method (94 cases). Laparoscopic procedures seemed to be as effective as colpotomy and vaginal tubal ligation but had a lower morbidity rate. Since women with gynecologic disorders often require major gynecologic surgery after tubal ligation hysterectomy is the recommended procedure for sterilization. There should be no reluctance on the physicians part to perform hysterectomy on women who elect the procedure even though it requires longer hospitalization and the risks of morbidity are greater than with other procedures. |
