The present paper discusses technical, political, and legal aspects involved in mental health prevention in Brazil. First, it focuses the epidemiological basis of different levels of prevention in public health, namely, the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Then, it brings examples of how such prevention can occur at these different levels. Finally, it discusses issues related to the deficiency of public prevention programs in mental health in Brazil, despite historical legal guarantees of such care in the field of public health. |
