Popis: AIAA 34th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, Reno, NV Jan 15-18, 1996 A new numerical method, vorticity capturing, is used to study wing download. A tilt-rotor wing in hover is modeled with and without an interacting rotor wake. A NACA 0012 airfoil section is used to define the wing geometry, while the rotor wake is modeled by a vortex ring. Results for the isolated wing case, i.e., without the rotor wake, are compared with 2D numerical solutions obtained separately by a velocity-vorticity approach. The flow is computed for Reynolds numbers equal to 50,000 and 1,000,000. The flow is assumed laminar at Reynolds number 50,000 and fully turbulent at 1,000,000. Additionally, the effect of wing aspect ratio on the flowfield is investigated by modeling wings with half-span aspect ratios of 2.55 and 6.0. (Author)
