Popis: | The influence on regeneration of a reversed head graft attached to the posterior end of the isolated postpharyngeal section of Dugesia tigrina was studied following removal of the graft after varying periods of time. After section-graft association for as long as three days, the predominant effect of the graft was inhibitive: regeneration of the head was blocked first, position or reconstruction of the pharynx next, and elongation of the body arrested last. This appears to indicate the sequence of determinations of these structures and the times when they occur in normal morphallaxis of the isolated postpharyngeal section. Four days of section-graft association appeared sufficient for the grafts' own inductions to occur in the section. Longer associations resulted in gradual, and ultimately complete reversal of polarity of the postpharyngeal section. |
