Popis: Q fever is a zoonotic infection caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii. Inhalation of contaminated aerosols is the primary route of infection. Acute infection is typically asymptomatic but may present with an influenza-like illness, with evidence of pneumonia or hepatitis (or both). The diagnosis is often missed because symptoms are nonspecific. Progression to chronic infection may occur in immunocompromised patients or those with underlying valve disease. Infective endocarditis is the most common form of chronic Q fever. Serologic testing is the most valuable diagnostic tool.
