The generally used filter for kitchen hoods employs a mesh type filter or a baffle type filter. The Chevron filter, which is a baffle type filter, is very efficient. However, it generates noise and vibrations due to the significant pressure loss. In this study, the Coanda effect was employed to develop a new, simplified Chevron filter by eliminating the bumps that result in pressure loss. In addition, to increase the efficiency of particle collection, a sub-filter was added to the bottom of the main filter to collect fine oil-mist. As a result, when the Coanda Effect was applied, the filter with a 0.5-mm slide achieved an increase of approximately 15% in the particle collection efficiency, as compared to the existing filters. In the case where the filter was applied only with the Coanda Effect, the oil-mist in the range of 3-7 μm, was not collected. To address this limitation, a sub-filter of diameter Φ1 was added. As a result of applying the sub-filter, the particle collection efficiency increased from 31.0% to 68.6% in the original case, and an excellent particle collection efficiency of 69.3% was achieved in the case of the slide filter. |
