Popis: | Stomata in isolated epidermal tissue of Commelina cyanea were induced to open by floating on buffered solutions of either KCl or the K salt of the non-permeant zwitterion iminodiacetate. The tissues were allowed to fix 14CO2 and the recovery of 14C in malate and citrate and the increments in malate and citrate concentrations during stomatal opening were measured. Carboxylation of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) was found to be a significant source of accumulating malate in the system. |
