The involvement of the peripheral immune system has been addressed in the etiology of neurodegenerative disease. Recent Genome-wide association studies have identified several candidate immune genes linked to neurodegenerative diseases including Late-Onset-Alzheimer’s Disease (LOAD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
