High-Resolution peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (HR-pQCT) is currently used to quantify bone microstructure but as a CT modality there is potential to exploit its power to measure muscle tissues as well. Currently, there is no established protocol for assessing muscle parameters using HR-pQCT images. The aim of this work is to propose a new approach to segment muscle, fat and bone tissues to assist Physicians and Researchers to examine the feasibility of using HR-pQCT images to assess muscle quality in at-fracture risk patients. Preliminary obtained results show that HR-pQCT images can be used to evaluate the segmentation of muscle and skeletal tissues. |
