THE 1969 Physiology Symposium was modeled after the one developed by Dr. Donald Polin the previous year, and I want to express my thanks to him for his keen interest and valuable suggestions. The topic was my own idea; and although it clearly reflects my personal propensity, it was favorably received by the other members of the program committee as a theme which would be both relevant and interesting to the avian biologists of many kinds who attend meetings of the Poultry Science Association. The four papers presented here represent areas of research in which there has been a significant amount of recent activity and in which new data and new theories are wreaking havoc with what we thought we knew. In short, they represent scientific progress. Further, these papers illustrate nicely the fact that endocrinology is a pervasive discipline which increasingly demands the attention of specialists in nutrition, metabolism,… |
