Most building engineers recommend that building owners use heat pumps as heat generators in air-conditioning systems. Their operation and maintenance are easier than for other equipment, and they contribute to the prevention of air pollution. The past record in Japan shows that the share of heat pumps used in air-conditioning systems was over 50% in the case of small buildings, however it fell to less than 50% where the total floor space of the buildings was over 6,000m2. The reason for this is that central-type heat pumps are more expensive than other equipment. To promote the use of heat pumps in large buildings, it is necessary to persuade the building owners to that the initial investment could be recoverd more easily than by using other equipment. |
