Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and other antidepressants are increasing prescribed during pregnancy in past few decades for treatment of moderate to severe depression. While no clearly established teratogenic effects are reported, studies related to exposure to SSRI during pregnancy and offspring later consequences and neurodevelopment are conflicting. Therefore, the meta-analyses will examine the effect of maternal SSRI or other antidepressants during pregnancy and depression, internalizing behaviors or emotional problems in the offspring later in life. We will compare mothers who use antidepressants with mothers who are also depressed, but don’t use antidepressants, and also compare mothers who are depressed (or use antidepressants) with mothers who are not depressed. |
