Magnetic hardening in Fe3B∕Nd2Fe14B nanocomposite magnets induced by rapid thermal annealing

Popis: The decomposition behaviors of melt-spun amorphous Fe82−xNdxB18 (x=3-5.5) and Fe82−zNd5B18Mz (M=Ti, V, and Cr; z=1.5-5) alloys under a range of heating rates (0.042 to 8.3K∕s) have been investigated. The heating rate upon nanocrystallization has little effect on the structural and magnetic properties in both Fe79Nd3B18 and Fe77Nd5B18. In contrast, the Fe57 Mossbauer spectral area of Nd2Fe14B in Fe77.5Nd4.5B18 shows a clear increase with increasing heating rate, and the coercivity is enhanced. The coercivity of Fe77Nd5B18 doped with V and Cr is also enhanced to 200-430kA∕m when heated at a high rate of 3.3K∕s. Rapid thermal annealing is effective in enhancing magnetic hardness, in particular, when the metastability of Nd2Fe14B is moderately demoted.
