Introduction: lung cancer is one of the cancers with the highest incidence, so health specialists propose interventions based on modifiable factors, as a proposal capable of increasing knowledge in patients. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of an informative brochure for the prevention of lung cancer in patients belonging to the Family Medical Clinic 20 of the Moron municipality, Ciego de Ávila. Methods: development study, in the period from September to November 2020. An educational intervention was carried out to validate the brochure and raise the level of knowledge of the patients. We worked with the entire universe, which consisted of 161 patients. Methods of the theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical level (descriptive and inferential statistics) were used. Results: a high degree of satisfaction with the structural elements of the information brochure was observed (design 99.4 %, content 95.0 %, and images and graphics 92.5 %). Before the intervention, 65.2 % of the respondents did not have sufficient knowledge about the disease, after applying the proposal, 89.4 % presented an adequate level of knowledge. The McNemar test yielded statistically significant results (p = 0.000; p menor de 0.05). Conclusions: the information brochure allowed the strengthening of educational activities for health promotion and education from the Medical Office itself and provided the population with a useful tool for the prevention and control of lung cancer, observing a statistically significant increase in the level of knowledge about the disease. |
