Popis: The results of studies using borate effluents slurries as raw materials for the production of calcined ceramics replacing the traditional clay, are presented in this paper. Borate effluents slurries are the tailing generated by the boric acid industry from ulexite. They are discharged in dumps with the consequence of environmental risk. The use of borate effluent slurries as raw material for the production of new products is a way to minimize the environmental risk. Mud bricks have been prepared to study the influence of the calcination temperature on the mechanical properties and the solubility in water of boron and other soluble salts. The results show that the clay firing is a valid alternative for obtaining useful products such as bricks, tiles, rustic ceramics, pottery.
