| Popis: | This diploma thesis consists of five annotated translations, accompanied by a discussion. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay, The Translation of Childrens’ Literature: A Reader by Gillian Lathey and Quantitive Research Methods in Translation and Interpreting Studies by Christopher Mellinger and Thomas Hanson), and two from Croatian into English (Narodni preporod u Istri (1860 – 1907) by Antoni Cetnarowicz and Uvjerljivo drugi by Sven Popović). The discussion focused on humor in translation of This is Going to Hurt. The aim of the discussion was to show the many ways humor can be translated. The majority of humor in this book was wordplays based on medical terminology, which proved to be problematic for translation. However, this discussion shows that if translators chose the right translation theory and the accompanying translation strategies, no joke is untranslatable. The first part of the discussion provides a theoretical framework of humor in translation, while the second part is an analysis of five instances of humor and their translations. Ovaj se diplomski rad sastoji od pet anotiranih prijevoda i rasprave. Odlomci iz tri djela prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski Croatian (This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor Adama Kaya, The Translation of Childrens’ Literature: A Reader Gillian Lathey i Quantitive Research Methods in Translation and Interpreting Studies Christophera Mellingera and Thomasa Hansona), dok su odlomci iz druga dva djela prevedeni s hrvatskog na engleski (Narodni preporod u Istri (1860 – 1907) Antonija Cetnarowicza i Uvjerljivo drugi Svena Popovića). Rasprava je posvećena prevođenju humora u knjizi This is Going to Hurt. Cilj rasprave pokazati je na koje se sve načine humor može prevesti. Većina humora u ovoj knjizi su igre riječima koje su ujedno i medicinski termini. Zbog toga je humor u ovoj knjizi bilo teško prevesti. Međudim, u ovoj se raspravi dokazuje da ni jedna šala nije neprevodiva ako prevoditelj odabere odgovarajuću teoriju prijevoda i prijevodne strategije. Prvi dio rasprave posvećen je teoriji prevođenja humora, dok se drugi dio sastoji od analize pet šala i njihovih prijevoda. |
